About
This blog site is the home for a personal and community-based research project I began in 2002, attempting to make sense of why my friends and social contacts found it so meaningful that I was a white bloke dating an Asian bloke.
Since then it has broadened into a theory of power relations across boundaries of difference and sameness on the gay scene, and a staging point for an attempt to discover new and viable strategies for negotiating equality in cross-cultural relationships.
In the process I’m beginning to engage with theories that construct such equality as an impossibility, pointing out the ways in which totalising theories of race and power offer ‘no way out’, exerting a violence of their own on the relationships they seek to govern and overwrite.
I’m always keen to hear new viewpoints and personal experiences, especially if they contribute to or challenge my thinking in these posts and papers. From a chat to a formal interview, it’s all material, and please feel free to make contact and tell me your thoughts.
